Empty Bowls Looks For Full Plates

Imagine not being able to feed your children. Imagine being a senior citizen and having to choose between rent, medications or food. Imagine working all day, maybe multiple jobs and coming home to an empty refrigerator.

In Talbot County, this is the reality for 11% of our residents; 15% of our children; and 6% of our senior citizens. With unemployment around 3% in the county, many of the people in need are working and still struggling to make ends meet. How can working people still not afford a basic essential like food?

As we approach the holidays and reflect on our year, it is an ideal time for us to think about food insecurity in our county and how we might help.

A donation to Talbot County Empty Bowls will get funds directly to our local food pantries. Last year, we raised over $41,000 to provide to local food pantries. Since our chapter started, we have raised almost $400,000 and all that money has been given to Talbot County food pantries.

Where do we get this money? The generosity of our neighbors like you.

Please consider participating:

  • Visit Kiln Born in January to decorate a bowl for our annual dinner.

  • Attend our annual dinner on Feb. 28 at St. Mark's Methodist Church in Easton and enjoy soups generously donated by local restaurants and chefs.

  • Contribute to our holiday donation to local food pantries by sending a check to Mid-Shore Community Foundation noting Talbot County Empty Bowls or going to our website at talbotcountyemptybowls.org. Even $5 can help.

To learn more about food insecurity, check out the Talbot County Hunger Coalition website at healthytalbot.org.

Together, we can make a difference.

Thank you for your help and making a difference in our community.
